ABOUT us

Chasing lights (2018)

Gateway Performing Arts (GPA) is a ministry of Gateway Church. GPA is perhaps best known for our annual Christmas musicals, beginning with The Elevator in 2006. Our summer productions began in 2013 with an original musical entitled The Show, and since 2015, we have had the honor of producing a Broadway-style musical every summer. To this date, Gateway Performing Arts has presented twenty-five mainstage productions.

Many exciting ministry opportunities have grown out of our productions, including classes and camps. Our twice-annual class sessions began in 2015. Through classes, we provide quality instruction in singing, acting, dancing, and more to all ages (6+) and skill levels. GPA’s heart to encourage and equip the next generation continues through our Performing Arts Camps. Our camp offerings began in 2021 and have since developed into two unique experiences for kids and students!

At our core, GPA strives to provide ways to build connection with and celebrate others. One of our favorite ways to honor the talent and hard work of our community is Night of Scenes. For this annual event, we produce selections of original work written, directed, and performed by GPA community members. We also present many opportunities throughout the year to volunteer and serve, giving our community a chance to connect and grow together.

Our greatest mission, however, is to glorify God and serve others with our gifts. As creatives and performers, we realize how easy it can be to seek self-promotion. Instead, aim to promote others and build them up. This is reflected in 1 Peter 4:10–11:

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.  If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” (NIV).

Out of this, “Soli Deo Gloria”, our ministry motto, was born. This phrase, from the Latin, translates “To God Alone be Glory.” At the end of every rehearsal, gathering, and meeting, we pray, put our hands in, and “break” by saying “Soli Deo Gloria.” This tradition reminds us in everything we do, big or small, we seek to do it to the best of our ability with the sole intent of honoring and bringing glory to God. We look forward to see the work the Lord continues to do through this ministry, and we hope that you will be a part!
